The city was made capital in 395 A.C. by emperor Konstantinos 1st. The city was conquered by the Turks in 1453 and its unofficial name became Istinpolin and since 1926 officially Istanbul. Istanbul is the largest and most important city in Turkey. Parts of the city is placed both in Europe and in Asia.
